PETE ANDRESEN BIO

Pete Andresen is a life-time resident of Monterey County. His childhood was spent in the town of Salinas and on cattle ranches living a very traditional Salinas Valley lifestyle.

After a year as an itinerant professional cowboy, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Infantry in 1975. He then studied Arabic at the Defense Language Institute as an enlisted Marine. After attending OCS and The Basic School, Pete was commissioned as an Infantry officer in the Marines in 1977. His Cold War service took place in Germany, Okinawa, Korea, and elsewhere. He then served in the active reserves from 1980 through 1991, and left reserve service with the rank of Major.

Pete graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics. In 1984, thanks to the benefits of the GI Bill, he completed a Master’s Degree at UC Davis in International Agricultural Development with a specialty in international finance.

His life-plan was to return home to manage the family cattle operation. However, local farmers soon requested his assistance managing currencies for overseas trade. That immediately morphed into managing their pension plans as a broker for EF Hutton.

His business, Andresen & Associates Fee-Only Investment Advisor, was created on October 1st, 1988 and has been in operation ever since. Pete is an advocate of a successful system of holistic financial management which embraces diversification and risk management in a financially uncertain era.

Pete is a single father with 3 children: a daughter who is now 21 years old, an 18 year old son, and a 4 year old daughter.

His non-working life encompasses family, running, wilderness, camping, Nordic skiing, the fanatic study of history, and competitive rifle and pistol shooting

In addition to writing the non-fiction “Dollars and Common Sense: A Guide To Investing In The Tumultuous 21st Century”, due out by May, 2012, he has written a weekly column for the Salinas Californian newspaper and is currently at work on a novel set in 1585 Virginia.
